Wayward Son is a guild named after the song by Kansas. Yes, I like
them. Before I get into the details of Wayward Son let me tell you a
little about me it's GM.
WHO AM I?
I'll just give you
guys some facts about me nothing in great detail, just a bit. My
character names are Ghorr, Clarese and Bloodborne my real name is Tony
and I live with my wife Jennifer and two cats Cleo and Chief in central
New Jersey. I maintain memberships in two guilds. The first Blood and
Thunder the second Wayward Son.
WAYWARD SON
I created
Wayward Son because I was tired of seeing groups dissolve over loot and
drama and personal differences. I have seen firsthand the damage that
negativity and selfishness can do. I witnessed laziness lead to anger
and then finger pointing. For me this was the breaking point, fun was a
memory at the time. I questioned why I was even talking to these
people. When I realized where I was emotionally I nearly stopped
playing, but in my heart I really didn't want to. After some soul
searching I decided that what I wanted was to create something larger
and far less petty. I wanted to fold in my real life friends with cool
people that had the potential to be new friends. I thought of a place
where communication and teamwork would be fostered. I wished to control
the greed and individualism that works to undermine any organized
approach to meeting challenges. I would take the bull by the horns and
lead by example I would have the control this time to say enough is
enough. What I wanted was to set out to develop a group built upon
good-will and maturity with a foundation of respect. I would play on my
terms and not compromise what I wanted for the sake of progression. I
believed that you could progress with people you liked.
At first
I thought I would just create a raid group. That's what I started to
do, while I was in the process something unexpected happened, a guild
sprung up. It wasn't a group of hardcore ready to go level 80s like I
thought it would be. It was a mixture of level 16's, 20's, 57's and
level 40's, people who had alts in other guilds, some people that were
fresh from alliance guilds, some new players that started yesterday.
With these new players challenges arose and many times I questioned my
abilities to get them to where I wanted us to be. Many have come and
many have gone since I started Wayward. An imperfect science this guild
management thing is. Many personalities inevitably lead to conflict.
Not everyone will fit in here and that is OK, those players need to
find a system that works for them. Our system works for us.
WHERE WE ARE
What
was once an idea has become reality. We now have 70 members, 4 bank
tabs, a clearly defined leadership, established contests, a kick ass
website and forums, 50 slot Ventrilo server and last but not least a
cool tabard =p I cannot take all the credit for what we have built, I
got very lucky in the sense that I have found officers that have gone
above and beyond to make Wayward Son a worthwhile guild. I'll admit at
times they have been my strength. At times they have been the voice of
reason, other times they have been my conscience, but most of the time
they have simply been good friends. I salute them for few guilds have
leadership that cares this much.
